From Monday, 13th February 2023 the new number ‘24’ bus will run between Bicester and central Oxford. The route and schedule have both changed significantly from the previous bus service because the route will be covered by just one bus. Please see below the new timetable, and the route to Bicester. You might be interested to note that, although not mentioned below, this route will pass not only Kidlington Sainsburys and Summertown shops but also those large shopping areas south of Bicester on its way into Bicester. It is to be run by Grayline Coaches of Bicester.
Oxfordshire County Council were creative in achieving this for us, using a central government BSIP grant, which could not be used to support an existing loss-making route. Despite many problems for OCC and for bus companies due to rising costs, driver shortage and passenger loss because of covid, negotiations achieved the route and timetable below. Please note how a quicker turn-around is achieved at important times for Oxford commuters.
To all villagers, please note
that, as long as the political decision is that bus routes should be commercially viable, it is very important that we all use this ‘24’ bus to sustain it, especially at off-peak times, or we shall lose it. Please consider those who depend on public transport and, if possible, use bus not car.
